Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 2008 is all set to Flag-off the Youth Baton Relay (YBR) from Delhi University, North Campus on the 1st of August, 2008.

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP and Chairman, OC, CYG Pune 2008 and CWG Delhi 2010 addressed the press ahead of the flag off. Speaking on the occasion, he shared the route map of the Youth Baton Relay, which will begin from Delhi covering 9 states,199 cities, town, villages and reach Pune after 74 days covering a distance of over 8000 kilometers. Over 7500 Volunteers will help the Baton’s journey.

As part of the “Green Games” initiative the Baton relay will collect water from every state on route. The collected water will be used at the Opening Ceremony to create a spectacular Fountain of Youth. A ‘Garden of Youth’ will be created with the saplings brought in by the athletes from 71 participating nations at the Shri Shiv Chhartapati Sports City, Balewadi as a legacy of the Relay for years to come.

The relay will run in support of ‘Save the Tiger’ campaign in association with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and will visit Tadoba, Pench, Melghat, Borivili and Sariska Wildlife Reserves on route.

Tata Motors is the official Vehicle Provider to the Youth Baton relay. 23 Tata Motors vehicles, including Sumo Grande, Safari, Winger, Magic, 207 DI, and 407 SS, will accompany the entourage. One of the vehicles provided by Tata Motors has been developed as a 'Special Green Vehicle' (SFC 407) that will continuously collect refuse from the relay. This will be processed into manure to be used for planting saplings on the route.

Kinley Water is the official beverage, for the Youth Baton Relay. Bank of Maharastra (BoM) are the official bankers and Air India are the International Airlines Partner for the Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008.
3rd Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 2008
The III Commonwealth Youth Games will be held in Pune from the 12th to 18th October 2008. These are the first ever Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Asia. It is for the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games that all 71 Commonwealth nations with over 1,300 athletes under the age of 18 and 350 officials will participate in these games, competing in 9 disciplines - Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling. The venue of the III Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008, Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi, is unique as it is for the first time that the competition venues of all disciplines and the athletes’ village will be housed in a single sports complex.
