Youth Baton Relay Visits South Campus on the 2nd day of its journey
Delhi, August 2, 2008: The Youth Baton Relay (YBR) visited city Colleges in Delhi University’s South Campus on the second day.

The Baton arrived at Jamia Milia Islamia University in the morning and was welcomed on campus by Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP and Chairman, OC, CYG Pune 2008 and CWG Delhi 2010 and Vice Chancellor Prof. Mushirul Hassan. A spectacular cultural event was organized by the students. The Baton continued its journey to Lady Sri Ram College, Kamla Nehru Gargi College, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Motilal Nehru College, Ram Lal Anand College, Venkateshwara College, Atma Ram Shanatan Dharm College, Maitreyi College and finally culminated at Jesus and Mary College after collecting water from every college.

The college authorities at Jesus and Mary had organized a gala cultural event, where Mr. Suresh Kalmadi was the guest of honour. The event started with a classical dance performance, followed by fusion dance and was concluded by gymnastic performances by the students. Jigrr, the official Mascot of 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008 was cheered on by students, who adored him and lined up to meet him and take pictures.

The Youth Baton Relay, will leave for Gurgoan on Sunday on its way to Pune traveling through 9 states,199 cities, towns and villages covering a distance of over 8000 kilometers. Over 7500 Volunteers will help the Baton’s journey. The relay is being run in support of ‘Save the Tiger’ campaign in association with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and will visit Sariska, Borivilli, Tadoba, Pench and Melghat Wildlife Reserves on route.

Tata Motors is the official Vehicle Provider to the Youth Baton relay. 23 Tata Motors vehicles, including Sumo Grande, Safari, Winger, Magic, 207 DI, and 407 SS, will accompany the entourage. One of the vehicles provided by Tata Motors has been developed as a 'Special Green Vehicle' (SFC 407) that will continuously collect refuse from the relay. This will be processed into manure to be used for planting saplings on the route.

Kinley Water is the official beverage for the Youth Baton Relay.
